Chinese Herbal Cancer Medicine As An Alternative Cancer Treatment
Although it is not a cancer cure, herbal medicine has been found to be useful when used in conjunction with conventional cancer treatments. Chinese herbal cancer medicine is made up of a concoction of herbs that are taken by the cancer patient each day in conjunction with his conventional treatments.
The herbal medications will help to counteract the side effects found from the chemotherapy and radiation treatments, such as nausea and vomiting. In addition, the Chinese herbal cancer medicine has been found to help to strengthen the immune system of the cancer patient, which is an important factor in the patient’s recovery. Many times, the immune system becomes so weak from the chemotherapy and radiation treatments, the cancer patient ends up contracting pneumonia or other serious illness from which they are not strong enough to recover. Through the use of Chinese herbal cancer medication, the patient builds his immune system throughout treatment so that he is not as susceptible to those types of illnesses.
Research on Chinese Herbal Medicine
There have been some studies done on Chinese herbal cancer medications both in the West and in the East. Many of the studies have been published in Chinese and are not as easily accessible to doctors and researchers in the West. In addition, the research standards that are held in the East and West differ from each other so that in some studies not enough information was given about the specific herbs that were studied in trials with patients so the results of the studies are termed invalid by Western researchers.
There have been some exceptions to this rule, however. The Chinese herbal cancer medicine called PC-SPES, which is a combination of several Chinese herbs, has been studied very extensively in the West as well as in the East. Trials of this herbal mixture have been encouraging although more study needs to be done to show conclusive results.
There have been studies of Chinese herbal cancer medicines that have been used with conventional treatments that seem to help prevent the recurrence of certain cancers as well as others that seem to stop the growth of tumors in individuals with certain types of cancer. The overall research consensus is that more research will have to be done on the Chinese herbal cancer medicines to determine which ones are the most effective and with what types of cancer so that it can be used more extensively in conjunction with conventional methods of cancer treatment.
